GHANA-TURKEY
Following Ghana’s independence in 1957, diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1958 and our first Ambassador in Accra was appointed in October 1964. Our Embassy, whose activities were terminated in 1981 due to austerity measures, reopened on 1 February 2010. Establishing an Embassy in Ankara in Ghana in 2012.
11.Visits of our President Akra on 23-24 March 2011 and the visits of Ghana President John Dramani Mahama to our country on 21-24 January 2013 accelerated the relations between the two countries.
Likewise, the visits of our President to Ghana on 29 February-1 March 2016 have created a new turning point in the relations between the two countries, and a Business Forum was held in which about 150 of our opponents and Ghanaian opponents were present. Finally, Ghana Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey made an official visit to our country on 11-14 January 2020.
Our bilateral economic and commercial relations show a positive course. Currently, around 150 Turkish companies operate in Ghana. Prominent sectors are energy and contracting.
Turkey-Ghana trade volume of 40.7 million dollars, while in 2010, 2011 and more than 10-fold increase in the year 2012 is provided. In 2016, bilateral trade volume reached 478.9 million USD, reaching its highest level. In 2019, our export to Ghana was 371 million Dollars and our import from Ghana was 100 million Dollars, and our bilateral trade volume was 471 million Dollars.
The products transported in our exports are cement, insulated cables and wires, flour, iron and steel products, chemical fertilizers and petroleum oils. The most important products in our import are cocoa and cocoa products, soybeans, cotton and gold.
Mixed Economic (KEK) has gathered 4 times so far. The last meeting was held on 14-16 April 2014 in Accra.
The DEİK delegation made two default visits to Ghana, in November 2018 and May 2019.
Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) provides humanitarian and development assistance to Ghana.
